SALARY RANGE: $62,427.98 - $76,130.36 (Commensurate w/ Education & Experience)

PRIMARY PURPOSE:

The Benefits Manager is responsible for administering all voluntary employee benefits such as: medical, dental, vision, cancer, critical illness, life and disability insurance plans, Health Savings Accounts, 403(b) Tax Sheltered Annuity Plans, 457(b) Deferred Compensation Plans, Prepaid Legal Plans, Section 125-Cafeteria Plans and COBRA.

Key job responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Recommending and implementing competitive, cost-effective benefit products
  • Managing vendor resources, benefit staff, the enrollment process and the set-up of deductions
  • Ensuring compliance with relevant laws and regulations
  • Ensuring the timely and accurate filing of reports and forms required by law
  • Reconciling and auditing general ledger benefit accounts, enrollment databases and vendor statements monthly to ensure the timely addition, cancellation and correction of benefit coverage and payroll deductions

The positions requires a good mix of hands-on, operational and design experience, as well as solid knowledge of benefit laws, regulations and best practices.   

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration,Human Resource Management or a directly related field and five (5) years of experience in Benefits Administration, or any appropriate combination of education and experience
  • Two (2) years of management experience requiring the: planning and scheduling of work, evaluation of employees and benefit operations, drafting of written procedures and independent execution of appropriate corrective action

 

Experience/Special Knowledge & Skills:

  • Evidence of strong planning and new initiative implementation skills required
  • Demonstrated ability to multi-task and effectively manage projects to meet established deadlines required
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently and problem solve in a fast paced, high volume environment required
  • Experience maintaining payroll deductions and fringe benefits in a Human Resource of Payroll software package strongly preferred
  • Strong audit and analytical skills with the ability to independently identify and follow-up on required corrective action
  • Advanced knowledge of laws and regulations related to benefits such as: COBRA, HIPAA, PPACA, Deferred Compensation Plans-457(b), Tax Sheltered Annuities-403(b) and Section 125- Cafeteria Plans required
  • Ability to display exceptional customer services skills required
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel and Word Skills required. Experience using Microsoft Access is a plus
  • Knowledge of elementary accounting required
